When Politics Trumped Science

In December 2019, China reported an outbreak of a pneumonia-like illness in Wuhan, initially linked to the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market and characterized by high fevers and respiratory distress.

The World Health Organization (WHO) identified the illness as being caused by a novel coronavirus related to the virus responsible for the 2002–2004 SARS outbreak. The virus was later named SARS-CoV-2, and the disease COVID-19.

Scientists, physicians, and scholars quickly raised concerns about the COVID response, including the ethics of unprecedented lockdowns, allegedly inflated morbidity and mortality statistics, and fear-based policies built on speculative models.

Many also questioned the speed with which the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted Emergency Use Authorization to mRNA vaccines, citing reported trial flaws, lack of transparency, inflated efficacy claims, and the suppression or minimization of adverse-event data by government agencies and compliant media outlets.

The Biden White House pressured social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter to censor accurate discussions of vaccine risks, discouraging informed consent and reinforcing misleading claims about vaccine effectiveness.

COVID-19 exposes how critical data on the virus, vaccines, and adverse effects were withheld from the public by legacy media aligned with government and pharmaceutical interests. It also documents the government censorship apparatus through lawsuits, Freedom of Information Act requests, and the work of independent journalists in the tradition of Walter Cronkite.
